STOCK MARKET INSIGHTS : 17/08/2020

  • NSE’s Nifty went up by 68.70 points, or 0.61% , ending at 11,247 while S&P BSE went up by 173 points or 0.46%, ending at 38,050.78 levels.
  • 42 stocks reached their 52-week highs on NSE, some of them being APL Apollo Tubes, Bajaj Electricals, BLS International, Geekay Wires etc.
  • In Nifty -50 Index, top gainers were Zee Ent., Hindalco, Bajaj Auto , NTPC and Eicher Motors, while top losers were Bharti Airtel, SBI, BPCL, Tata Motors and Reliance Industries.
  • Shares of Britannia went up by 2.5% to Rs 3,895 per share after announcement of the company’s interim dividend of Rs 83 per share.
  • NTPC shares went up by almost by 7% as the company’s earnings surpassed the street estimates.
  • L&T Finance sold 1,13,06,222 equity shares in CG power at Rs 13.94 per share on NSE and 4,12,93,778 shares at Rs 13.97 per share on the BSE, thus exiting CG Power Industrial Solutions through selling of balance stake via open market transactions.
  • Zinc prices went up by Rs 4.05 to Rs 191.35 per kg in futures market on MCX.
  • Rupee ended rather flat, settling at a marginal 2 paise higher at 74.88 against the US dollar.
  • Crude palm oil futures rose to Rs 753.30 per 10 kg with an intraday high of Rs. 758.50 and low of Rs. 749.10 per 10 kg on MCX.
  • IndusInd Bank sold 22 lakh shares in McLeod Russel India at Rs.17.78 per share.
  • Nickel prices went high by 1.86% to Rs. 1,105.8 per kg with an intraday high of Rs 1,108 and low of Rs 1,108 per kg on the MCX.
  • Copper prices went up by 0.85% to Rs 514.1 per kg , with an intraday high of Rs 514.75 and low of Rs 510.15 per kg on the MCX.
  • Gold prices remained unchanged at Rs 52,874 per 10 gm for 24 carat gold, after losing 3.9 % on the COMEX last week, marking the first weekly decline in 10 weeks.
  • Silver prices rose by 2.05% to Rs 68,550 per kg, with an intraday high of Rs 69,236 and low of 67.030 per kg on the MCX.
  • HFCL reported 81% dip in consolidated net profit to Rs 21.34 crore for Q1, June 2020, compared to the net profit of Rs 117.12 crore in the same period in the last financial year.
  • Suven Pharmaceuticals announced a 0.41 % decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 91.52 crore for Q1, June 2020, compared to its net profit of Rs 91.90 crore in the same period last year.
  • Shares of Glenmark Pharma went up by 2% intraday to Rs 508.50 after the company’s announcement of a more than two-fold increase in net profit of Rs 254.04 crore for Q1, June 2020.
  • Shares of Sun TV Network went up over 6% intraday at Rs 425.85 per share, after retained buy by CLSA on the stock,targeted at Rs 490 per share.
  • Supreme Court heard a case against the telecom companies regarding pending dues, like, Jio is liable to pay off the dues of RComm spectrum, at around Rs.31,000 crores due to their takeover of RComm, and this matter is adjourned till 19th August 2020.
  • 75,000 shares of Rushil Décor sold by Aspire Emerging Fund at Rs 105 per share.
